My Permanent Hopeless Romantic Era

a mosaic

by Audrey C

Listen to the playlist as you read the poem!

A sickly romance in the air, a todo el mundo le puedes contar as long as you call me,
But where are you now? I
Confess, I loved you from the start but
Darling, what am I to do?
Everybody loves somebody sometimes, everybody falls in love somehow, and everybody finds somebody someplace so
Fill my heart with song, let me sing forevermore, you
Got my hands cuffed, God knows I do.
How can my day be bad when I’m with you here by your side, hand in hand in second-hand stuff
In love with the thought of it all, and if you want to try, I’ll give you my all ‘cause I think I’m prone to getting blinded when it’s bright, and I’m alright if you’re alright.
Just promise you’ll be careful with my heart ‘cause I
Know I loved you from the start.
Love of my, love of my life I’ve been waiting lonely in this home, it’s always colder on your own, loving you was easier than you think.
My heart cries a little for you, My darlin’ I, I let the season change my mind but I
Never get to clean up the mess I made
Only in my darkest moments can I see the light, Oh lord, I really hope it’s nothing.
Pretend that we are more than friends and politely asking if you’d like to dance
Qué si te quiero
Run to me confess your love, at least just let me say
Say goodbye to the pain of the past because something in your kiss just told me I should’ve gave you all my hours when I had the chance. So just, just for tonight, let me be your guy,
Take my hand until the sun goes down and this December, I’ll remember
Unrequited, terrifying love is driving me a bit insane.”
Venir conmigo, amor,
What if you and i had passed us by? We parted ways but it’s time well spent. Well you know, those were the best tears of your life.
X-ray, what you see is what you get
You’re teaching me to care less, your love made it well worth waiting, yes it hurts so much to fall in love.
Zoomin’ in, zoomin’ in on you, so this is how it feels and please tell me if our love was real.

A NOTE FROM THE EDITOR

The poem featured here is both an abecedarian and a cento -- meaning the first letter of each line follows the English alphabet, and each line is also taken from a variety of songs. Thus, the poem is essentially a mosaic; a dozen love stories pieced together. All the songs used in the poem has been compiled by Audrey into a Spotify playlist, which can be accessed through the link above. Feel free to listen as you read -- how many of the lyrics can you catch?
