Here lies a story, a story of a time

Two lonely folks had dreamt of other lives

He dreams of France and a girl who he adores

She dreams he’s from New York

She dreams he’s from New York or around

That he is kind and patient and proud

“From this day forward for better or for worse”

She waits for the day to say the vows she’s rehearsed

Oh, fun and free

That’s what he hopes to find in she

He longs for romance in the city of love

Only this place he can never see or touch

Then began the life long wait

Of fading love not meant for fate

Even with the lives they lead

The one thing they don’t have is all they need

So goes the story that was left behind

Here lie the dreamers who were left in time

Here lies a story of dreamers far and wide

One of pure hope, but alas to their demise

Love, even luck, wasn’t on their side

Here’s to the dreamers in time

A french lady dreams

of finding a man and falling in love with him

for him to take her to his beautiful home in the US and to live there happily ever after.

Now, as it turns out, there’s a man in the United States who’s always had this dream

of falling in love with a foreign woman —

and since the french have a reputation of being romantic, he dreams it’d be a french woman.

In his mind, he’s made up how she looks,

how she acts

all about what kind of person she is.

As it turns out, everything he says fits the lady who’s dreaming about a man to a T.

And everything this woman dreams about fits this man to a T.

So they spend their lives dreaming of meeting each other, but they never meet.

These dreams are so real that neither of them ever get married.

These dreams have become so real that only that person can make them happy.

They never actually meet.

They never get married.

And they live their lives alone

A STATEMENT FROM THE ARTIST

...I was at a sandwich shop with my dad, and I told him to make up a story about two people who will never meet. This is what he said.

It took around 2 weeks to make the whole arrangement and figure out the background vocals. I sent it to 5 people this January and asked them to sing it with me at IASAS (Interscholastic Association of Southeast Asia Schools Vocal Conference) and we did!! It was pretty great. That’s the main reason I created this piece – to sing an original song with my friends from schools around the world.

This song was inspired by the film Life of Pi. It began as a high school music class assignment—a short melody composed for a scene where the protagonist approaches a tiger in a cage out of curiosity. As I delved deeper into the creative process, the piece gradually evolved beyond the classroom, becoming a musical portrayal of the will to survive and the spirit of exploration. I named the composition "Voyage of the Tideborne Tiger", inspired by the imagery of the boy and the tiger braving the raging seas together in a small raft.

The first verse depicts Pi’s initial encounter with the tiger—his fear mixed with an irresistible curiosity. Though the tiger is confined within a cage, the untamed wildness in its piercing eyes remains undiminished.

The second verse describes Pi’s coexistence with the tiger during their long, perilous journey. He learns to understand the tiger’s nature and, in doing so, awakens a will to survive within himself. He no longer fears the unknown.

In the third chorus, Pi is forced to drift across stormy seas. As the lifeboat rises and falls with the waves, he feels threatened by both the sea and the tiger. Slowly -- and surprisingly -- the tiger becomes a source of spiritual support, giving Pi the courage to face the dire circumstances.

The bridge summarizes the journey as a fantastical adventure filled with unknowns and danger. Accompanied by the tiger, Pi finds the determination to survive. Just most journeys into the unknown, we overcome challenges through mutual support, allowing us to move forward bravely.

The final key change symbolizes Pi stepping onto dry land. He’s no longer afraid, but instead radiates courage— ready to face a broad, unknown world.
