light refractions
FILM
by Sage R (with Erin W)
I rest my lids in liminal space
the hazy limbo a cool embrace
brushing away the morning dew
i carry on, a steady pace
drawing away the wispy air
your eyes shine through, a nostalgic glare
i allow the fog to coat my lungs
the teary leaves: my sodden lair
crests of waves brush my neck
its sleepy breaze a silhouette
i wade through the endless sea
the only compass: my misty breath
our time is up; the tide now low
the earth is still; the rain to snow
i still sometimes feel the afterglow
i still sometimes feel the afterglow
A STATEMENT FROM THE ARTIST
SAGE R
I frequently write and create little pieces of art but don't really share them. My poems are part of a series of 4 documents where I blurt my thoughts out in the form of pretty words, so I'm happy to be able to get some of them out of the comfort of my Google Docs. I don’t necessarily write out of personal experience, though. Often I put myself into random universes and just write what I sense. In terms of the film, I was assigned a "visual poetry" under 5-minute film in class, and I worked extensively with Erin W to create this experimental short. This is only my edit--she did her own. I also wrote the poem and performed it in the film. Ultimately, I'm happy with how it turned out. It's best watched with headphones! Also, the quality got ruined by YouTube. I don’t know what anyone will gain from reading/watching these, but I hope I take you on a little journey through my artistic expression. Enjoy!
