Ever since we decided on the theme Sunny Side Up, I knew I wanted to do something with The Egg. I first read this story in 2018. I revisit it every few years, and it's only hit harder every time. It's such a gorgeous story. And it fits so well, I couldn't not involve it in some way.

The problem was that I didn't know what to do with it. I contemplated turning it into a comic or an animation, but people far more skilled had already done so in higher quality. I was stuck, until Jamie and I recorded our Two Peas in a Podcast episodes. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that project was mostly a flop -- both episodes were recorded in the basement of a public library, I spent most of our recording session in a state of near panic convinced a man across the room wanted to kidnap us, and both episodes took 11 hours to export from its editing software, all for around 40 people to watch.

It was worth it though, because at the end of that 50 hour-anxious-extravaganza, I knew for a fact Jamie had an amazing talent in voice recording. She has an incredibly smooth voice that's almost effortless in its delivery, making it comfortable to listen to. And she did a wonderful job with this project. I was awestruck listening to it for the first time and I teared up editing this video. It took me a little time to figure out what to use as a visual that wouldn't detract from her reading but still served as stimuli for the viewer. The worst thing that could happen, in my opinion, is for someone to click off halfway through simply because they were bored. Because this story and this reading were both wonderful and deserve to be listened to all the way to the end.

My hope is for people to listen. And I hope it connects, the same way it did for me. Life is very, very long. But it's not aimless. Even if that aim is to simply live, and to grow, and to become anew.
